Another West End Plan

Well there is another story in the Post-Gazette regarding the West End revitalization plan. It looks like they had another party, but is anything REALLY going to come out of this.

Here is an older post of mine about this same old story!

Below is the article from the Post-Gazette.

West End begins plan to change neighborhood image
Friday, March 19, 2010

The West End embarked on a six-month master plan process Wednesday with a wine-and-cheese reception at Artifacts, a home furnishings warehouse.

The stakeholder-directed process begins with a new branding effort to change the image of the West End, starting with a new name, the West End Village.

Dru Simeone, executive director of the West Pittsburgh Partnership, said the partnership has been working for years "to transition the West End from being the most disconnected, neglected part of the city and to blow wide open the doors for riverfront, housing and commercial development."

The master plan is getting $150,000 from state Sen. Wayne Fontana, D-Brookline.

Trying to Get Back!

Well it’s been about 2 months since my last post. I’ve been so busy with work, trying to coordinate and raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides walk that took place in May, and then there are these damn Penguin games taking up all my time.

I would love it if more people would like to contribute to this Blog. My vision for this is to be a TRUE neighborhood website, not just one person’s ideas and opinions. Kinda of a “by the people for the people” kind of thing. Please let me know what ideas you might have. I am going to try and keep this blog updated the best I can.

In the mean time, let’s see what’s been going on the last few months in our community.

From May 7th, a nice little video discussing the research of the history surrounding the Old Stone Tavern

Also from May 7th, an Elliott man gets sentenced 15-30 years in a stabbing death.

Here’s is a link to the story of the garbage truck accident that happened directly in front of the above mentioned Old Stone Tavern

Here is a great blog excerpt about Townsend Park in Elliott from the Pittsburgh Hoagie. I couldn’t agree with him more. I would actually like to walk around the neighborhood with my digital camera and find similar stories. Great Job Matt.

Baseball / Softball Signups

The Elliott West End Athletic association will be Holding signups for TeeBall, Baseball, and Softball on February 7th, 11th, and 21st. If your kids want to play, make sure get up there on one of the above dates. I can't say enough good things about this program.
